Low Power, Low Cost netX 90 Slaves

 

Hilscher’s cifX range of PC cards for adding Real-time Ethernet and fieldbus to industrial equipment now has three new options. Claimed as the smallest multi-protocol master/slave products on the automation market, they include an M2 slave, a mini PCIe master/slave, and a half-size mPCIe slave. They use the latest netX 90 chip, which means they are low power too, so no cooling is needed in environments up to 70 degrees C. Use cases include vision systems, mobile devices and embedded PC-based systems.


Featuring two new form factors for Hilscher, these compact PC cards are claimed as the smallest multi-protocol master/slave cards on the automation market. PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT versions are available now, with fieldbuses expected later. Based on the compact (10mm x 10mm) netX 90 chip, there are three types:
M2 Slave: cifX M2 uses an M2 connector and measures just 22mm x 30mm. Hilscher believes that when all PC slots are used up there is often a spare M2 slot so this version can provide slave connectivity in an already overloaded situation.  USB and SATA connections are also incorporated. Operating temperature range is up to 70 degrees C without need for cooling, so the solution is low cost and low power too.

Mini PCIe Master/Slave: cifX 90E measures 30mm x 51 mm and also uses the netX 90 chip so it offers the same small size and low power consumption as the M2 version.  It’s also aimed at compact PC card applications and is available in both master and slave types for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT protocols.


Half-size mPCIe Slave: At only half the height of the mPCIe version, cifX hPCIe90 measures 30mm x 26.8mm and is available as a slave for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT protocols. Operating temperature range is up to 70 degrees C without need for cooling, so the solution is low cost and low power.
